Hico Science Club Scholarships!
Seven years after joining the Hico Science Club, graduating seniors returned to the annual rocket launch. Erin Ballard and Ashlynn Drake returned for the great rocket build-off. They had 1 hour to turn trash into rockets and then they would launch their masterpiece. Their rocket soared over 1000 feet and was never seen again. It was amazing. Erin and Ashlynn were awarded the first annual Hico Science Club scholarship. The scholarships are sponsored by Hico Popcorn Works and Schreiber Foods. Erin and Ashlynn will both be attending Tarleton State University. Congratulations!

Hico Rocket Team Elects Officers!
Hello! My name is Jonathon Sandia. I am proud to be the president for the third year in a row. I am also followed by vice president: Falyn McAnally; director of communication: Vicky Zuniga and secretary: Max Gentner. We are all proud of being part of the Hico Rocket Team. We had our second rocket club meeting at the secondary school on September 20, 2019. In that meeting, we elected the officers and created teams for our year-long experiments. For example, we came up with our team names and our designs for our rockets that we are going to launch at Mr. and Mrs. Bales’ place. My team decided to do a drone with Mr. Gentner. As far as I can see, this group of kids are going to make you jump in excitement.
Rocket Team Mentors Build Prosthetic Hands
By Fernando Fonseca
The Hico Rocket Team is 3D printing prosthetic hands! They are partnering with the e-NABLE non-profit organization. e-NABLE is a global online community of volunteers, using 3D printing to create free 3D printed hands for those in need. The team can produce fully functional mechanical hands for less than $40 and donate them to people in need. The first step for the rocket team is to prove that they can build quality prosthetic hands. The mentors of the rocket team had a hand building party to build their test prosthetics. They submitted videos that detailed their build process and are anxiously waiting for their approval from e-NABLE.
“We are so excited about this opportunity. We can make someone’s life a little better and the rocket team can learn about engineering a donated hand.”, Jeff Gentner said. The hands can be customized for the recipient by size and by color. “We can even give it an Iron Man or unicorn theme for example.” Jeff said. If you would like to get involved with this great cause, contact the rocket team through HicoScience.com.
I just wanted to say thank you for making this possible and helping making these hands. This is a blessing to help these kids and adults.
